Hormone markers should always be assessed alongside a full health history, symptoms and lifestyle. High, low, outside of the reference range numbers – as much as these are a useful starting point, they don’t tell us the full story when taken in isolation.
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
❗Everyone’s *normal* is slightly different. We are living, breathing people, not statistics.
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
There are a lot of clues to be discovered once we start diving deeper to assess the connections.

Aside from the above 2 points, hormone ACTION + BALANCE is SO much more than an actual number against the hormone.

1️⃣ We need to be making ENOUGH hormones. Think raw materials coming into the body and the necessary enzymes. We need sufficient cholesterol to be making hormones, and no, too low cholesterol is not a good thing!
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
2️⃣ Hormones are either FREE (what the cells use) or BOUND (unavailable). Both levels (what we see on the DUTCH test) are important and they need to be in the right proportion. Stress – physiological, mental, emotional + the natural ageing process decrease levels of free hormones. Too much body fat does the opposite and we can feel the effects of a too much free circulating hormone.
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
3️⃣ Can hormones get INTO THE CELLS via the receptors? Too much of the strong estrogen can lead to estrogen dominance symptoms. Low and high cortisol also play a big role. We see both on the DUTCH.
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
4️⃣ Optimal hormone DETOXIFICATION is crucial for balanced hormones. We need adequate nutrients, and optimally functioning Phase 1 & 2 liver detoxification processes. Medications, supplements (along with lifestyle factors and general health) can slow this part down as they are all processed by the liver. Over the counter pills totally count!
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
5️⃣ Used hormones need to LEAVE THE BODY otherwise they get recirculated and symptoms are present. This is part of Phase 3 detoxification. Constipation is a BIG problem. Yes, pooping once every 2 days is not good 👎 Gut imbalances majorly influence this process too.
