So much bashing of conventional medicine in the *alternative health care* space. Separation. Right vs wrong. Natural everything all the way. The same attitude is often seen from the medical establishment.

I find this way of thinking puzzling at best and downright unhelpful (& potentially dangerous) at worst. It comes from a place of ego from both sides + serves no good purpose.

I am all for supporting the body naturally to do its job, first & foremost (we are the most sophisticated masterpieces of nature!), but how lucky are we to have the ever-evolving support of urgent care should we need it? And sometimes relying 100% on all things natural just isn’t enough.

⚕ Modern medicine

⇸Deals w/ acute / urgent healthcare events - I don’t want celery juice when I break my leg!
⇸Identifies the presence of disease in the body
⇸Helps aleviate/manage disease symptoms/progression with medication
⇸Focuses on WHAT - what disease does a person have

➛Supports homeostasis - ‘the condition of optimal functioning by the organism’
➛Supports function in the body - no matter the symptom or disease label
➛Recognises the body's ability to heal - it believes that each body, each person is capable of healing (whatever that looks like for them)
➛Is not seeking out disease - ‘treating / managing’ disease + lack of disease diagnosis does NOT equal optimal health
➛Looks to resolve root cause imbalance - making a symptom go away (w/ medication or supplements) is NOT addressing root causes
➛Uses symptoms as clues
➛Focuses on prevention - there are stages of imbalance before we ‘suddenly’ gain a diagnosis
➛Reviews optimal lab ranges as opposed to conventional lab ranges (not always in an optimal position)
➛Reviews and considers lifestyle and nutrition
➛Looks at the whole person - vs a collection of symptoms
➛Knows physical and emotional components of the body are connected
➛Asks WHY is this present? Everyone is unique.

We need both models of care! The main problem? We are using modern medicine for managing chronic conditions (with lifestyle roots) - something this model was never designed for.

🛁 A warm bath with Epsom salt (magnesium sulfate) is a good way to absorb magnesium without Mg upsetting the gut.
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
TIP: If you’ve never tried it, start with a low amount, i.e. ½ cup of epsom salt to allow your body to build tolerance. The skin is a detox organ too and too much, too soon can create some detox symptoms.
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
🧴 Applying Mg oil topically can also boost Mg levels and help with sleep and relaxation.
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
Mg oil is not really an oil - the name is misleading! It’s made with magnesium flakes and water. You can buy it ready made, like @betteryou_ltd → Or, you can easily make it yourself.

How I make it:
½ cup Mg flakes
½ distilled water
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
▪︎ Bring water to boil, remove from heat
▪︎ Add in the flakes and stir until completely dissolved
▪︎ Let it cool
▪︎ Pour it into a spray bottle
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
NOTE 1: There can be some tingling when you apply it. One theory is that the more we need Mg, the more the oil will tingle. This should subside and it shouldn’t feel too uncomfortable - obviously discontinue if you have an adverse reaction.

NOTE 2: If you use it regularly, you may find that your skin becomes a bit drier (I had that on my legs). Just use a moisturiser (separately from the oil).

NOTE 3: Some people find that if they use the oil at night, they can’t sleep very well (as opposed to sleep better). We are all different, and if that happens, I’d use it earlier in the day.

🌊 And finally, the sea and ocean provide Nature’s natural Mg soak! If you’re near one or during your beach holiday, make the most out of it. I love the beach for many reasons, but spending some time in the water every day (and I can’t really swim, so you have no excuses to not go in shallow water!) does wonders for my body. I literally feel toxins being drained away, any swelling & visible inflammation go away and I sleep tons better. 🥰

❓Which form of oral Mg is best absorbed? (Some people may need more than one form to replenish levels based on needs.)

〰️ Mg citrate - it has a mild laxative effect and a good option for constipation (not great for loose stools) & muscle pain. Unless contraindicated (consult with a doctor), typically, dosage can be increased to bowel tolerance.

After months of stressful moving and then being confined in a small space for 4 months, my soul & body are awake & doing a happy dance again! 🌞
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
This ‘lockdown’ experiment - however different our experiences may have been - has confirmed for many 2 things: we are social beings and need some variety in our lives! Doing the same thing over and over for months on end is not healthy. Or natural. 🤯
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
One thing is certain: we’ve all had a chance to experience something different and many of us have had the space to pause, reflect and re-evaluate what we want more of going forward.
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
It’s hard to create awareness when we are in the grind 24/7. This forced experience has had many positives in that regard. 🙏

On the other hand, it’s impossible to fully know the impact of this situation, as we are still living it.
Everyone, even those of us, who are seemingly fine, and haven’t had many direct negative implications (physical, financial etc.) - we have all been affected. No doubt. ♾

One thing that keeps coming up when working with clients is the extra care we need to take of ourselves and our precious mind space at the moment. The noise is too much and try as we might, we cannot fully escape it (but there is lots we can do to minimise it!). 😇

Compassion, compassion and extra compassion for others and ourselves - needed more than ever. Hourly. 🥰

I am super looking forward to being reunited with family soon and my #1 love, the beach! ⛱ Strangely, I have mixed feelings about being away from London, even though I desperately need a change of scenery - part of me really wants it, and part of me is somewhat not sure about it. I put it down to all the changes I’ve experienced this year, but this is a sign for me to be more mindful and more loving towards myself.
