Warm Detoxing Drink
Tis the season for cosy nights in, heartier meals and overindulging. Yet who wants to feel run down or even worse, stay in bed with a cold? Not you, I bet!
I’ve got the perfect pick-me-up drink for you. It is loaded with antioxidants and it aids the digestive and detoxification processes in our bodies beautifully.
I love it and drink it at any time, especially if I am feeling a bit full, bloated or tired. The ingredients also warm the body up from the inside, which is perfect for me as my body is craving warmth in any shape or form this time of year.
One can never be too warm in the UK, right?
Oh, and a rather cool side effect of drinking the tea? Your jeans may fit better! That’s right! Turmeric and ginger are simply a powerhouse of a combo for reducing inflammation and helping our bodies get rid of toxic waste easier. You’ve been warned 🙂
1/2 tsp minced fresh ginger root
1/2 tsp minced fresh turmeric root
Fresh lemon juice (to taste)
Raw honey (to taste)
Dash (or more) of cinnamon
Dash of cayenne pepper
Steep in 300-400ml hot water for 10-15mins, strain and enjoy!
Tip 1: Use ground ginger and turmeric if you don’t have fresh roots to hand. It works just as well, the powders just produce a slightly less strong of a flavour.
Tip 2: Allow the tea to cool slightly before adding the raw honey to get the maximum benefits of its raw, healing properties!
Tip 3: If you’ve never had turmeric or ginger, it’s always a good idea to start with small amounts, perhaps 1/4 tsp and see how your body likes them. You can always build up from there.
Tip 4: Turmeric has blood thinning effects. As always, consult with your medical practitioner if you’re starting a new food/drinks plan. In this case particularly if you’re on blood thinning medication or take any other medications or herbs, or are due to have surgery soon.
